After having been in the top five in the previous Prince Talal International Award competition, namely in 2020, AIDFI was this year the winner in Category 4. The award was “Climate action, take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact” or Sustainable Development Goal 13.
Last May 31, 2022, the prize committee awarded AIDFI for its entry “Pumping Water Uphill to Develop Climate Resilient Villages and Farms”. AIDFI had to promise to keep this information until the Awarding Ceremony.
The entries came from 48 countries across four continents.
The Awarding of the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development was held at the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt. Among the attendees of the ceremony, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal Al Saud (President of AGFUND and Chair of the Prize Committee), Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, Signora Mercedes Menafra (former First Lady of Uruguay), Dr. Y. Seyyid Abdulai (Former Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development, H.E. Mr. Ovais Sarmad (Deputy Executive Secretary of UNFCCC, H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad (Minister of Environment – Egypt), H.E. Dr. Sidi Ould Tah (Director General of BADEA), alongside other esteemed members of the international community, development experts, and AGFUND board members.
Besides the Ceremony, Auke Idzenga, representing AIDFI, gave a presentation of its work of pumping water to waterless villages and farms.
